Sorcery and Cults in Papua New Guinea - Let us pray for them

We are enemies of evil (Satanic cults, sorcery, witchcraft, etc.).
But we are also enemies of murders and violence, for it is also the same devil working behind them.

PNG woman tortured, burned alive in 'sorcery' case

A young mother accused of sorcery was stripped naked, doused with petrol and burned alive in front of a crowd including schoolchildren in Papua New Guinea, reports said on Thursday.
The woman, named by The National newspaper as Kepari Leniata, 20, was reportedly tortured with a branding iron and tied up, splashed with fuel and set alight on a pile of rubbish topped with car tyres.
According to the rival Post-Courier newspaper she was torched by villagers who claimed she killed a six-year-old boy through sorcery, with police outnumbered by onlookers and unable to intervene.
A fire truck that responded to the incident, which took place on Wednesday morning in Mount Hagen city in the Western Highlands, was also chased away.
According to the reports, which were accompanied by graphic front-page images of the woman's burning corpse, she admitted to killing the boy, who died after being hospitalised with stomach and chest pains on Tuesday.
Police said they were treating the torching as murder and preparing charges against those responsible.
There is a widespread belief in sorcery in the poverty-stricken Pacific nation where many people do not accept natural causes as an explanation for misfortune, illness, accidents or death.
In 1971, the country introduced a Sorcery Act to criminalise the practice. But PNG's law reform commission recently proposed to repeal it after a rise in attacks on people thought to practise black magic.
Local bishop David Piso said many innocent people had been killed.
"Sorcery and sorcery-related killings are growing and the government needs to come up with a law to stop such practice," Piso told The National.
The US embassy in the Papua New Guinea capital Port Moresby issued a statement strongly condemning the "brutal murder" of Leniata, who had an eight-month-old daughter, as evidence of "pervasive gender-based violence".
"We add our voice to those of Papua New Guinean religious and civil society leaders who have spoken out against the brutality inflicted upon Ms Leniata," the embassy said.
"There is no possible justification for this sort of violence. We hope that appropriate resources are devoted to identifying, prosecuting, and punishing those responsible for Ms Leniata's murder."
Police arrested dozens of people last year linked to an alleged cannibal cult accused of killing at least seven people, eating their brains raw and making soup from their penises.
There have been several other cases of witchcraft and cannibalism in PNG in recent years, with a man reportedly found eating his screaming, newborn son during a sorcery initiation ceremony in 2011.
In 2009, a young woman was stripped naked, gagged and burnt alive at the stake, also in Mount Hagen, in what was said to be a sorcery-related crime.

Increasing Incidences of Violence Especially Among Church Servants, a Devil's Mark

People must realized that we are all being attacked by the devil everyday, in every way. Children of God must always be on-guard to identify Satan's fingerprints that aim to inflict fear among people to regard him as someone very powerful and avoid confronting him with prayers.

St.Benedict, pray for us.
All Carmelite Saints, pray for us.
All Holy Angels and Saints, Virgins and Martyrs, pray for us.
Our Lady of Mt.Carmel, intercede for us.
Holy Trinity, One God, Deliver us from all evil. Amen.

Tactical officers had to taser a man with seemingly superhuman strength who yelled and chanted as he allegedly assaulted a deacon during a Catholic Church service.
"They had to restrain him, unfortunately, because he was very, very strong," deacon Gerard Charette of St. Alphonsus church, said Thursday.
"He was very uncontrollable, so he could have really hurt someone.
"So they made sure that didn't happen. I think things worked out OK. He's getting treatment, I think."
Windsor police said charges are pending against the 46-year-old Windsor man.
It's unknown if he was under the influence of drugs or other substances.
A priest had given the man communion near the end of noon mass at the downtown church.
"Then he became quite vocal, yelling and weeping, fell to the ground, rigid," said Charette. "We tried to escort him to the back. Again he fell down. He kind of tore my vestment a little bit."
Police were called at 12: 47 p.m. Wednesday to St. Alphonsus church at 85 Park St. E. The report was for a man causing a disruption.
Two officers arrived minutes later to see parishioners pouring out of the church. The adults looked distraught. Children were crying. Someone told police to "get inside quick."
The officers ran in and found a man at the front of the church near the altar. With his back to police, he was sweating profusely and chanting loudly in an "intimidating voice," police said.
He had his arms wrapped around the deacon.
"He had me in a lock, but I don't know that he had any intention to harm me," said Charette. "He was in his own world.
"He was yelling and weeping. In the heat of the moment, I didn't catch exactly what he was saying."
He wouldn't let go. "It's very concerning because the behaviour that was described was aggressive, disruptive and confrontational," said Sgt. Matthew D'Asti. "Police indicated when they arrived there was a sense of concern or urgency on the face of the deacon."
D'Asti said the deacon signalled to police that he needed help. Police ordered the man to let go. He ignored them. One of the officers grabbed the man.
"The guy released his grasp on the deacon, then the fight was on," said D'Asti.
There was a fierce struggle. Several other officers were called in.
"It took several officers to control the individual," said D'Asti. "He was fighting back with what one officer described as enormous strength. He was sweating profusely. He was chanting some type of chant that wasn't very coherent."
Not even the arrival of the Emergency Services Unit was enough to make the man give in.
"When the tac team members arrived, they warned him, and he ignored their commands as well," said D'Asti. "They felt it necessary to deploy the Taser, which was effective immediately."
Police put him in handcuffs but that wasn't the end of the fight.
"As soon as he started to recover, again he began struggling while in handcuffs and was trying to actively escape, and was chanting more chants," said D'Asti.
Police eventually got him under control and escorted him to the hospital for assessment.
"We're grateful no one in the congregation was harmed," said Charette. "I don't think they were in serious jeopardy, although you can't tell that in the heat of the moment."
Charette said he talked to the man's regular pastor from another church on Thursday to see what else they can do for him.
"I knew things would work out all right," said Charette. "We have a good congregation, great pastor and I just had confidence that the Lord would make everything work out OK."

Satan Never Looks Like Satan by Fr. George Rutler

Satan Never Looks Like Satan

From: The Catholic Education Resource Center.

By: Father George Rutler

God so loved the world that he spared us the indignity of making us feel good about ourselves. “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). If utopians indulge the dangerous sentimentality that thinks Satan is a mythic cipher to explain the problem of evil, Jesus does not. He knows the origin and character of Satan: “He was a murderer from the beginning. When he lies he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).

Satan hides behind the plural: he pretends to be more than he is, intimidating others by celebrity and popular support. “What do you have to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?” But in the presence of the Truth, even Satan cannot lie. He drops the plural and confesses what no mortal yet knew: “I know who you are — the Holy One of God!” (Mark 1:24). Our Creator knows more about the problem of evil than we do. Logically, if God did not exist, evil would not be a problem. It would be just an energy equivalent to good. In every age, those who have cooperated with Satan have solved the problem of evil to their satisfaction by saying that it is good. Many of these figures have had a seductive power over people that cannot be explained by simple human charm and persuasiveness.

Satan hates not being God. He is only a creature. His hatred refracts into a hatred of the Church, which is the only power against him in this world. He does not waste his time on false religions, heretics and braggarts. He hates the Sacrament of Reconciliation and tears down Confessionals because he wants to separate man from God. “Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries — of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature — to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history” (Catechism of the Catholic Church #395).

Satan never looks like Satan. He drapes himself in celebrity and humor and humanitarianism, using celebrity to mislead, humor to mock, and humanitarianism to de-humanize. One hatred in him always exposes him for what he is. Because our Lord said that we must become like little children to inherit the Kingdom of heaven, Satan hates babies. With great wisdom, the older Rite for the Baptism of a Child begins: “I exorcise you, unclean spirit, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Come forth, depart from this servant of God, for He commands you, accursed and damned spirit, He who walked upon the sea and extended His right hand to Peter as he was sinking.”

Beware of Cursed and Occultic Objects

Catholic Christians must be aware of the presence of cursed and occultic objects in circulation, promising good health, luck and charms especially in welcoming New Year. Some are given by practitioners of witchcraft like witchdoctors, psychics, New Age practitioners, feng shui, horoscope, palm reading, crystal ball, faith healing, fortune-telling, including those who patronizes lucky pendants, wristbands, necklaces like quantum pendants, etc. These objects and all those belonging to New Age movements are incompatible to the Church's teachings, doctrines and Catechism. "ONLY JESUS. ALWAYS JESUS.".

Saint Benedict, pray for us.
St.Michael the Archangel, pray for us.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us.
Holy Name of Jesus, save us. Amen.

BEWARE OF THE DECEPTIONS OF NEW AGE MOVEMENTS

Vatican Exorcist Calls Yoga “Satanic”

Rome’s chief exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth, has reignited the debate over whether Christians can practice yoga by declaring that both yoga and Harry Potter are tools of the devil.

The NY Daily News is reporting that Father Amorth made the comments at a film festival in the Italian city of Umbria this week where he was invited to introduce the new movie, The Rite.

“Practicing yoga is Satanic, it leads to evil just like reading Harry Potter,” Father Amorth said.

He went on to say that those seemingly “innocuous” Potter books convince kids to believe in black magic.

“In Harry Potter the Devil acts in a crafty and covert manner, under the guise of extraordinary powers, magic spells and curses.”

As for yoga, it leads to Hinduism and “all eastern religions are based on a false belief in reincarnation,” the 86-year-old priest said.

“Satan is always hidden and what he most wants is for us not to believe in his existence,” he said. “He studies every one of us and our tendencies towards good and evil, and then he offers temptations.”

Father Amorth, who performed more than 50,000 exorcisms since retiring in 2000, is the author of two books on his experiences and is both the founder and honorary president of the International Association of Exorcists.

Father Amorth is not alone in his estimation of both Potter and yoga. Pope Benedict once warned of “subtle seductions” in the Potter books that “dissolve Christianity in the soul.”

In 1999, while serving as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, he issued the document “Some Aspects of Christian Meditation“ in which he warns Catholics about the dangers of eastern practices such as yoga, Zen, and transcendental meditation, saying that these practices have the danger of degenerating “into a cult of the body” that debases Christian prayer.

He also states that yoga poses could create a feeling of well-being in the body which could be confused with “authentic consolations of the Holy Spirit.”

Characteristics of Diabolical Influence - by Msgr.Charles Pope

Msgr. What Are Three Characteristics of Diabolical Influence?

How Are They Manifest In Our Modern World?

Archdiocese of Washington The Light Is On.org.

Msgr. Charles Pope

Edited for length.

They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee. When Jesus stepped ashore,he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. When he saw Jesus,he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voie,“What do you want with me,Jesus,Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!” For Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him,and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard,he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places. Jesus asked him,“What is your name?” “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him.. (Luke 8:26-30)

Msgr. Charles Pope

You will then recall how Jesus drove the demon(s) out and into the herd of swine.

Bishop Fulton Sheen states that the following 3 characteristics are sure fire ways to determine diabolical activity.

  1. Love of Nudity – For the text says:For a long time this man had not worn clothes.
  2. Violence – For the text says:though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard,he had broken his chains. Mark 5:4 more vividly adds: For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.
  3. Division (Split Personality and divided from others) – for the text says, many demons had gone into him. Mark’s version has the demoniac reply My name is Legion, for we are many. (Mk 5:9). Further all the texts say the demoniac lived apart from others,in solitary places.

So here are three characteristics of the diabolic.

It does not take much analysis to see how these three characteristics of the diabolic are alive and flourishing in the modern world,at least the Western branch of it. Let’s consider them

1. Love of Nudity - This is clearly manifest at several levels. First there is the widespread tendency of immodest dress. We have discussed modesty here before and ought to note that modesty comes from the word “mode” referring to the middle or to moderation. Hence, while we want to avoid oppressively puritanical notions about dress that impose heavy burdens (especially on women) and regard the body as somewhat evil,we must also critique many modern forms of dress at the other extreme. These “fashions” reveal more than is reasonable and generally have,as their intent to draw attention to aspects of the body that are private and reserved for sexual union in marriage. Too many in our culture see little problem parading about in various stages of undress, wearing clothing that are more intended to disclose and call attention to,than to conceal the private areas of the body. This love of disclosure and titillation is surely an aspect of the Evil One’s love of nudity, and he has surely spread his obsession to many in the modern West.

Pornography, though nothing new in this fallen world, has surely reached epidemic proportions via the Internet. Any psychotherapist, counselor or priest will tell you that addiction to pornography is a huge problem among people today. Pornographic sites on the Internet outpace all others tenfold. Multimillion Americans are viewing enormous amounts of pornography and the “industry” is growing exponentially. What was once hidden away in adult bookstores is now one click away on the Internet. And the thought that browsing habits are easily discoverable matters little to the addicts of this latest form of slavery. Many are on a steep slope downward into ever more deviant forms of porn. Many end up at illegal sites before they even know what has happened to them, and the FBI is knoocking on their door. Satan’s love of nudity has possessed many!

The overall sexualization of culture also ties in to Satan’s love of nudity. We sexualize women to sell products. We even sexualize children. Our sitcoms chatter endlessly about sex in a very teenage and immature sort of way. We are, collectively, goofy and immature about sex,and our culture giggles like horny teenagers obsessed with something we don’t really understand. Yes,Satan loves nudity, and everything that goes with it.

2. Violence – We have discussed here before how we,collectively, have turned violence into a form of entertainment. Our adventure movies and video games turn violent retribution into gleeful entertainment and death into a “solution.” Recent Popes have warned us of the culture of death, where death is increasingly proposed as the “solution” to problems. In our culture violence begins in the womb,as the innocent are attacked and it is called “choice” and “rights.” The violence and embrace of death continues to ripple through culture through contraception, violent gang activity, easy recourse to war and capital punishment. The past Century was perhaps the bloodiest ever known on this planet and untold people in the hundreds of millions died in two world wars, hundreds of regional wars and conflicts, horrific starvation campaigns in the Ukraine,in China and elsewhere, genocides in Central Europe,in Africa and Southeast Asia. Paul Johnson,in his book Modern Times estimates that over 100,000,000 died in war and violent ways in the just the first 50 years of the 20th Century. And with every death,Satan did his “snoopy dance.” Satan love violence. He loves to set fires, and watch us blame each other as we burn.

3. Division –Satan loves to divide. Archbishop Sheen says that the word “diabolical” comes from two Greek words dia+ballein, meaning “to tear apart.” My own study of Greek, poor that it is,does not yield this result. Rather dia means “through” or “between” and ballein means “to throw or to cast.” Nevertheless, the Good Archbishop was a learned man and I ask you Greek Scholars to set me straight and defend Bishop Sheen.

But,even still,it is clear that the devil wants to divide us,within our very own psyche and among each other. Surely he rejoices at every division he causes. He “casts things between us” (dia+ballein)! Diabolical indeed. And thus,we see our families divided, the Church divided, our culture and Country divided. We are now divided at almost every level:racial, religious, political, economic. We divide over age, race, region, blue and red states, liturgy, music, language, and endless minutia.

Our families are broken, our marriages are broken. Divorce is rampant and commitments of any sort are rejected and deemed impossible. The Church is broken and divided into factions,so too the State, all the way down to the level of school boards. Though once we agreed on essentials, now even appeals to shared truth are called intolerant.

And within too,we struggle with many divisive drives and forms of figurative and literal schizophrenia. We are drawn to what is good, true and beautiful and yet what is base, false and evil also summons us. We know what is good, but desire what is evil,we seek love, but indulge hate and revenge. We admire innocence but often revel in destroying it or at least replacing it with cynicism.

And Satan dances his “snoopy dance.”

Three characteristics of the diabolic: love of nudity, violence, and division. What do you think? Is the prince of this world working his agenda? Even more important:are we conniving? The first step in over-coming the enemy’s agenda is to know his moves,to name them and then rebuke them in the Name of Jesus.
